If you want to keep the ali head, Bruce, you could maybe reduce the heat outflow in other ways. I have been told that Freddie Dixon used to tune sv Fords and would replace 4 branch manifolds fitted by well meaning owners with the original restrictive manifold for the same reason, namely, greater thermodynamic efficiency. My schoolboy physics suggests that other factors should be considered before you scrap the alloy head. I would have thought that ambient temperature, efficiency of the cooling system, latent heat/volatility of the fuel and compression ratio would all make a difference. Also, the cast iron head is heavier! My only unblown car has a cast iron head, I must admit...and a new radiator! Probably should have saved the cost of the rad and fitted an ali head!
