Pulled the motor out of the Chummy this morning, thinking it was the normal "replace the rear main seal" thing. Wrong, what I did find was the flywheel was cracked around the centre boss, 3/4 the way around.
It always amazes me how these cars can be going so well and then because of something else you find a major drama!
I replaced the small crank some years ago with the 1 5/16 This meant that the taper was too small, and I had another boss made and welded into the centre of the flywheel, to suit the larger crank.
This has now broken, how many times have we seen it, not at the weld but beside it.
Question. With the earlier motor, (solid mount) and bacon slicer starter, which flywheel do I need to replace the broken one? From what I can work out I need the very early 30's one. From a motor with the large crank, and fitted with the bacon slicer.
Another identifying factor is the 6 5/16 unf bolts holding the clutch cover on. The others I have are of the 1/4 bolt type.
Am I right in presuming that I need this model flywheel? If I can't find the correct one, (if there is such a thing), I am may enquire as to having one turned.
Oh, for you royalists, Christine helped out with a morning tea this morning for Prince Phillip. Our next door neighbour at work is the importer of Yorkshire Tea, happens to be a Yorkie and drives a 28 Chummy (English body of course).
Anyway, Phil looked at the tea, and stated "I've come all this way to drink Yorkshire Tea". Christine offered him some other drinks, he put his hand on her arm and said "no thanks, I'll probably spill it on somebody". She's happy!
Any help on the flywheel story?
Greg.
