Easiest way I know to identify a close ratio 4sp box needs a clutch plate and a drive flange on the box. The higher ratio 3rd gear on the sports box means that if you cause the drive flange to make exactly one revolution, having selected third gear, the clutch plate will rotate a little less than one and a half times. A standard box will give a rotation of the clutch plate of a bit more than one and a half times. I know it doesn't sound like much, but it is quite obvious when you see it. Incidentally, you will probably find an engraved number one one of the gear shafts of a 65 or Nippy box that should match the no. stamped on the back of the box.
