G'day,
I know that this has been covered before, but I would like a clarification please. :-)
I have just acquired an early chummy and can't find a chassis number anywhere. I understand that this is normally on the nearside (left side seated?) chassis rail somewhere around the engine mounts. Is this normally visible from the top of the chassis? There is a crack reinforcing plate welded inside (underneath) the top hat section, could that be covering the number?
The chassis has been cleaned and painted so there is no number left on the cross members either. I note that all other fittings have A1-xx numbers on them. Are these individually numbered to tie up with a chassis number, or series (model) numbers, all the same for a batch. For example the front forging is A1-50.
Thanks, DG
