If you're sure it's an early chassis, the number is always stamped on the top of the nearside rail at it's very front ie where it overlaps the cast nosepiece. It is near the nearside edge of the rail in the vicinity of the rivet and the front engine-mount hole. Up until late 1926 the number was also stamped into the vertical rear face of the rear cross-member, again nearside of car, along with the original engine number and body number, E------ C----- B-----, one below the other. If there's a blank after the B, it was sent out here without a body. If however, your chassis is about 1929, many came out here without the stamping near nosepiece for some reason. You'd find it a futile exercise matching up 1A nos (previously XL nos) with anything. If you can't find any number, email and I'll tell you how to at least determine which year it is. Good Luck, Bill
