Hi Martin. 1. You can adjust at back of g/box but there's a limit , sounds as though you haven't had a worn box rebuilt? 2 What sort of brakes ? Early, semi-Girling, hydraulic, other? 3 Before doing any mechanical work, try removing one of front engine bolts to chassis. When chassis flexes (even if boxed) it causes alum. c/case to flex at different rate to cast-iron block, thus a leak. 3 only bolts allow flexing. You may be surprised at the difference.
