While the steering box can cause the problem you describe the same problem can be caused by the tie rod ends. It is important to check the holes at each for trueness by inserting rods through them. Check that the rods are parallel when viewed from the front and when viewed from the side. When those are true do the same with the holes in the ends of the track arms. One tip with these is not to tighten them up until you have fitted the tie rod. Then with the drag link disconnected swivel the wheels by hand - there should be no change in resistance as you do this. One other point worth checking here is that both track arms are at the same angle to their stub axles - if not the same, the inner wheel won't have the correct extra amount and cause both tyre wear and poor handling. Good luck. That should fill in an evening for you!
