I had this problem with my opal, Obviously you need to loosen the U bolts off and remove the 1/2 inch bolt through the chassis in each, basically a combination of penetrating oil and brute force did the trick. I had to exert sideways force on the end of the spring to loosen them off, then I used a long steel drift and a 14lb sledge hammer!
