All my problems with excessive oil usage etc. went away after I found out that I had a "72" main jet instead of a "50". I got the correct jet from Chris @ A7 spares, fitted it and reset the 26VA carb. -- no further problems, increased pull, no oiling up and what a difference all for £6. The carb had previously been fully rebuilt by Carb Exchange at Leighton Buzzard, no disrespect to them but maybe they should have asked if the jet size was what i wanted. never mind I now have an Austin that goes like the wind!!!!!!!!!
