Suspect you have got an adaption plate for a 1 1/8" SU where as the carbs you have will be 1 1/4". Either make a new plate using the existing one as a pattern but to fit your carbs or find a 1 1/8" SU - in the UK 1 1/8" are difficult to find and most people use 1 1/4" carbs which are common place - see previous postings on this site on this subject.
Either carb will work well as neither fully opens on a Seven.
